A mixed bag as variations on A Christmas Carol go, this 1970 British musical tells the usual story of Scrooge (Albert Finney) and his spirits on Christmas Eve, although the whole thing is set to music by Leslie Bricusse. Except for Finney's feisty and involved performance, however, there isn't much to recommend this. The songs, which absorb so much of the evolving story line and emotions, are not all that good. Plenty of support, however, from the likes of Roy Kinnear (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) and Dame Edith Evans (Tom Jones), the handsome production is directed by veteran Ronald Neame (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie). --Tom Keogh

Customer Rating: Summary: Thank You Very Much Comment: This SCROOGE is my all-time favorite compared to every version out there. The story line, the rich color and music are excellent. The characters are well cast and well developed. The script does a fine job of contrasting the young Scrooge to old curmudgeon he eventually becomes. Albert Finney is brilliant. If you're going to invest in any version of Scrooge, this is it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Singing Scrooge Comment: I love this version because it is a musical, even Albert Finney manages to croak out a decent melody!I saw this first in the movie theatre with my parents and then grew up watching this over the years. It was along with An American Christmas Carol, my favorite version. I had it for many years on VHS and replaced it with DVD this year. A must see for dark humor and great music!
Customer Rating: Summary: Scrooge w/Albert Finney Comment: This is a fabulous musical rendition of the Dickens Classic that has played in our house every Christmas since I discovered it. As the children grew and left home, they each requested a copy. For anyone who likes a good musical--and even those who don't--this is a great movie.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Classic Comment: The muscial scrooge is an enjoyable, humorous, Christmas classic that we watch every year as part of our Christmas eve tradition. As we've given it to our friends and family, they too have made it part of their family tradition as well. Incredible music that you will find yourself singing to yourself at odd times of the year. Acting and screenplay convey both the joy and tragedy of Dickens stories. It's a great tool to help those that can't quite get the "Christmas Spirit" to lighten up and enjoy humanity.
Customer Rating: Summary: Finally Comment: Exactly what I wanted and could not find in store. Product arrived quickly and undamaged. Extremely pleased
